Wales Family Commonwealth Games Visit Glasgow

The Prince and Princess of Wales brought their three children to Glasgow on Saturday to enjoy some of the final events of the Commonwealth Games, drawing attention from sports fans and spectators at several venues.

Known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay while in Scotland, Prince William and Princess Catherine attended the Games with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The family watched high-level competition, met athletes, and thanked volunteers who helped make the event possible.

Their visit came during the second-to-last day of the Commonwealth Games, which have attracted athletes and fans from across the Commonwealth.

The royal family began their visit at Glasgow's OVO Hydro, where they watched the women's netball semi-final between England and New Zealand.

Fans inside the arena saw an exciting match as New Zealand secured a 61-54 victory over England. The result sent New Zealand into the gold medal match while England moved into the bronze medal contest.

The family was seen cheering from the stands and closely following the action throughout the game. Spectators welcomed the royal visitors, and many gathered to catch a glimpse of the family during the event.

After the match, William and Catherine spent time meeting athletes, staff members, and volunteers. They thanked workers who have supported the tournament and helped deliver the competition in Glasgow.

Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis also interacted with Games volunteers and the event mascot, creating several lighthearted moments during the visit.

Princess Charlotte shared a friendly exchange with the mascot and later posed for photographs with members of Scotland's women's netball team. Princess Catherine joined her daughter for the team photo, which became one of the memorable moments of the day.

Following the netball event, the family met para powerlifting champion Mark Swan and gymnast Reuben Ward. The athletes spoke with the royal visitors as they continued their tour of the venue.

The family later traveled to the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, another major location for the Games. There, they met Olympic cycling star Dame Laura Kenny and spent time with leading figures from British cycling.

They also sat near Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy, whose achievements have helped make the velodrome one of Scotland's most recognizable sporting venues.

Prince William was seen speaking with his children throughout the visit, explaining events and pointing out moments during the competitions. Prince Louis, the youngest member of the family, appeared especially enthusiastic and entertained by the atmosphere.

The Commonwealth Games are approaching their conclusion after several days of competition. Although smaller than some previous editions, the event has still delivered a busy schedule and strong attendance.

A total of 215 medals have been awarded across 10 sports during the tournament. Organizers have also highlighted the event's record number of para-sport competitions, with 47 para-sport events included in the program.

Glasgow stepped in to host the Games after the Australian state of Victoria withdrew because of rising costs. The city previously hosted the Commonwealth Games and was able to prepare for the event on a shorter timeline.

The tournament officially opened with a colorful ceremony attended by King Charles and Queen Camilla. The event featured music performances, cultural displays, and representatives from 74 nations and territories.

Attention is now turning to the final day of competition and the closing ceremony.

In netball, New Zealand will face Jamaica for the gold medal, while England will play Australia for the bronze medal. These matches are expected to be among the final medal events of the Games.

Organizers will then begin transforming the OVO Hydro from a sporting venue into a concert arena for the closing celebration. The conversion is expected to be completed in only a few hours.

The closing ceremony will feature performances from well-known Scottish artists and cultural groups. Organizers say the event will celebrate the athletes, volunteers, and communities that helped make the Games a success.

The ceremony will also include the official handover to the next host city. Ahmedabad, India, is scheduled to host the centenary Commonwealth Games in 2030.

As the Games enter their final stage, the visit by the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children added another memorable moment to a tournament that has celebrated sport, culture, and community across the Commonwealth.
